Very easy to grow indoor (grows faster and larger) or oudoors. Sonchus oleraceus is a species of flowering plant in the tribe Cichorieae of the family Asteraceae, native to Europe and Western Asia. It has many common names including common sowthistle, sow thistle, smooth sow thistle, annual sow thistle, hare's colwort, hare's thistle, milky tassel, milk thistle. and soft thistle. There are many species of Sonchus (Sonchus spp.) – all are edible and most are indistinguishable in appearance – but the two most commonly used for food and medicine are smooth sowthistle (S. oleraceus) and prickly sowthistle (S. asper). Although Sonchus Oleraceus seeds can germinate in both light and darkness, their chances of doing so are better when they are exposed to light. Therefore, the Sonchus Oleraceus seed has the best chance of germination at or very close to the soil surface. Sonchus Oleraceus can grow well in a variety of soil types and is fairly tolerant of saline soils, but it prefers moist, well-drained soils with a pH range of 5 to 8. Sonchus Oleraceus: Medicinal usesIn liver problems, Sonchus Oleraceus is helpful. Root extract is used in ointments for ulcers and wounds, while the stem is used as a sedative and tonic and the leaves and roots are used as febrifuges in ingestion. Latex-derived gum is used to treat ascites and hydrothorax. In addition, the leaves of Sonchus Oleraceus can be cooked and eaten on their own or added to soups. Sonchus Oleraceus stems can be eaten; however, before cooking, people frequently scrape off the outer layer. Because of their hardness, roots must be cooked thoroughly if they are to be consumed. Due to the low latex content of the plant, even the sap is helpful; the New Zealand Maori chew the sap like gum. Sonchus oleraceus L. (Asteraceae) (SO) is a dietary and traditional medicinal plant in Chinese folk culture that can be cooked and eaten to treat inflammatory disease. Currently, studies have indicated that the extract of SO exert many bio-activities, including antioxidant.FREE shipping, NO Tracking. Many take several weeks, months, and some even up towards a year depending on dormancy, region, season etc. It is important that the buyer understands that seeds are perishable products and seed germination can be adversely affected by such factors as mold/fungus, bugs, temperature, moisture content, light intensity, dormancy, care, contamination of planting media among many other reasons. Germination recommendations are sent with each order and the buyer is free to research and use their own methods. Floating seeds do not always indicate that the seed is not viable. Many times, it is a misconception because the seed does not have the density to sink in water. Accordingly, The Plant Attraction does not guarantee seeds to perform properly regardless of conditions or buyer's methods or soil/water/lighting.
