1/144 Douglas X-3 Stiletto (2 Models) Dragon Wings #51028 Factory Sealed MISB

Description: I need to clear some space on my shelves, so I have to part with some of my collection. From May 2011 to August 2012, Dragon released their 1:144 X-Planes Series of experimental and secret planes. This distinctive-looking craft was released in December 2011. Now you can have two of these groundbreaking icons (one with transparent parts) in a convenient size for displaying on your desk or shelf. Even though this underpowered aircraft couldn’t break the sound barrier in level flight, it deserves a place in the middle of a string of these X-Planes to show a timeline of man’s quest for speed. Here is what I have found online about this particular product: The dragon-models.com site shows the box art and gives a good description of the details of the aircraft model: Features:• Molded plastic construction.• Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.• Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.• Presentation stand to display the aircraft "in flight".• Interchangeable extended/retracted landing gear. Continuing on with Dragon Warbird’s collection of experimental aircraft is a 1/144 scale model of the X-3 jet aircraft. Developed by Douglas Aircraft Company from 1949 onwards, the sleek X-3 Stiletto was designed for sustained supersonic speeds. The X-3 employed titanium and low-aspect ratio wings, and the first prototype was delivered in September 1952, with the first flight occurring the following month. Eventually a total of 51 X-3 flights took place. However, the pair of Westinghouse J34 turbojet engines was not powerful enough so it never actually reached Mach 1 in straight flight! The effort wasn’t wasted though, as data obtained from the X-3 was used to produce the F-104 Starfighter. The lone X-3 Stiletto is on display at the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. The Dragon Warbirds model captures perfectly the sleek lines of this experimental design, and two complete 1/144 scale models are included in the set. One model is a fully finished replica while the other has transparent exterior parts that reveal some of the craft’s innards. The latter model provides aviation enthusiasts with a new appreciation for this futuristic aircraft design. All details are accurately rendered, plus an “S”-shaped display stand made of metal is included. This allows the exterior and interior of the models to be shown off side by side. Only one X-3 Stiletto was ever built, but now Warbirds offers you two! Wikipedia has a page that provides additional background, operational history and details of the Stiletto and her place in history. These two beauties are completely painted and assembled and ready for immediate display. One has the transparent fuselage to show some of the internal components. The two models are carefully cradled in a perfectly shaped plastic insert packed in a colorful box about 7.3” x 6.3” x 2.4”. As you can see from the pictures, the box is in pristine shape and still sealed with a couple of tape strips, so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. Ironically, this item contains two models of this one-of-a-kind (literally) test aircraft that have been painstakingly painted and finished, along with a unique metal dual display stand and removable landing gear. As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality.
