Description: Presented is a fine set of 12 sterling silver dinner forks made or retailed by Ball, Black & Company of New York, predecessors to Black, Starr & Frost. This firm was active from 1851 to 1874. These forks are done in the large dinner size and have a wonderful Gothic design. This pattern is a variant of the Gibney pattern which was patented by Whiting in 1862. Each fork is engraved on the end of the handle with LMH in Gothic script. The forks are marked on the reverse with Ball, Black & Co. for the maker, Patent 1862, and 950 for the silver purity. This is a slightly higher purity than sterling silver. The condition is excellent. The forks have some light surface wear commensurate with age and light use, but this is minor. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The forks are 8 1/4 inches long. The weight is 776.8 grams or 27.2 ounces. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
