Description: You are looking at a set of 12 4" x 1" x 1" blocks of Red Grandis Wood that are being sold with the intention as woodcarving or whittling blocks. Not all of them will be uniformly 4x1x1 but will be close, as they were hand-cut from scrap pieces of wood used in my woodworking shop. These pieces of wood are unfinished/raw but have been heat-treated in a kiln. This type of wood is a straight-grained, medium uniform textured wood, similar in nature to cherry wood or hard maple wood. It absorbs varnishes very well and looks well on its own raw or with a varnish after completion. I have personally not used this type of wood (yet) to whittle so I do not know how well it whittles on a scale from 1-10, however I believe it would yield results of that similar to basswood. This wood is harder than basswood but would still be relatively easy to work with given that it is straight-grained with a uniform texture. The end result, regardless of difficulty, is a beautiful piece of work that absorbs varnishes well or would stand well on its own.
