Description: STAND NOT INCLUDED IN PURCHASE. This is a fabulous painting by Benjamin J Rabe (1912-2001), a famous painter and architect from Redlands, CA. Rabe is also a listed artist on askART. This piece is in overall great shape, except for the character marks from father time (see pictures.) Frame Size: 11-7/8" x 13-7/8" Art Size: 5" x 7" Rabe moved at age 4 to Redlands in 1916 and attended Redlands schools before receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture at Cornell University. During World War II he spent three of those four years as an Air Force engineer, building 15 airfields in southeastern China. Each construction entailed the employment of 5,000 to 30,000 Chinese workers. Back in Redlands he was a practicing architect from 1946 to 1964, designing a number of fine homes and commercial structures, including the Redlands Daily Facts building and the Edward-Dean Museum of Decorative Arts in Cherry Valley (where the main gallery was later designated as the Benjamin J. and Mary A. Rabe Gallery in their honor). He was a founder of the Lyon Gallery at A.K. Smiley Public Library and of the Redlands Art Association, serving as first president of each. He also served as president of Redlands Country Club in 1953 and president of Redlands Rotary Club in 1970. He helped curate the city of Redlands Centennial art exhibit in 1988, which hung at the San Bernardino County Museum. He served on the Redlands Planning Commission from the 1960s into the 1970s.
