Description: 1/6 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE - SUPER HUNKY DUDE IN SUPER BEAUTIFUL MOP CASE BOTH IN EXCELLENT CONDITION - The handsome dude definitely cleaned up nicely to have his likeness capture sometime between the late 1840's to early 1850's judging by the type of mat surrounding his near perfect portrait. The image has exquisite richness of tone, great contrast and superb sharpness. His face was completed by the operator or their assistant with a dusting of warmth. His gorgeous silver coated plate is contained in an equally stunning and ornate MOP case with additional hand painted designs. Overall, you cannot go wrong falling for this 19th Century gentleman. The sixth plate daguerreotype has been resealed and new cover glass added. The image has excellent contrast, tonal range and fantastic overall sharpness. The perimeter has lovely amount of beautiful natural tarnish surrounding the edge. Any dust you see maybe on top of the image with very few on the plate itself. The rarer MOP case has strong original hinge, the large brass latch system in working order and red velvet pillow. Although the black japanning lacquer has some crazing, all the mother-of-pearl elements are present as well as most of the hand painting. A truly wonderful cased image for any collection.
