1711 Solid Silver Queen Anne Sixpence Coin Brandy Toddy Ladle, Twist Handle

Description: 1711 Solid English Silver Queen Anne Coin Toddy Ladle, With Silver Tipped Twist Handle. Scroll monogrammed possibly JA with foliate detail. Lovely splayed bowl support. The silver sixpence coin is dated 1711 and the ladle is presumed to date to that approximate period. Toddy ladles with coins inset were typically not hallmarked because defacing the coinage was illegal. The silver Sixpence of Queen Anne is dated 1711. You can divide Anne’s reign and coinage into the period prior to the 1707 Acts of Union and the years afterwards. This Sixpence comes from the latter period, its reverse showing the English and Scottish lions, emblazoned per pale on the top and bottom shields, accompanied by the Welsh harp and the French lis. Centre: garter star. Angles: plain. The obverse shows John Croker’s portrait of the Queen. Lovely antique item in very good pre-loved and used condition, with age related wear. The handle is secure but there is slight movement. There is a linear dent to the base of the bowl near the edge - around the sixpence harp area. There are several other very minor dings from use. Silver tip has a small pin head ding to the back of the ladle. Length: 36cm (14”) Gross Weight (inclusive of handle): 45.45g This piece is already in circulation meaning no new silver has been used.
