Erasmus was a Christian humanist, known as the greatest scholar of the Northern Renaissance. He wrote in a pure Latin style, and prepared new and important Latin and Greek editions of the New Testament. These editions raised influential questions that were dominant in the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation.Written by John Jortin, a church historian, who published 'Remarks on Ecclesiastical History', known to be the most significant ecclesiastical history of that time.Bookplate of the barriest John Holliday to the front paste down. Holliday was a Fellow of the Royal Society from 1786. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, front board is detached but present. Rear joint is starting. Heavy rubbing to the boards and spine. Loss of leather to the rear joint, to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Some light marks to the boards. Light surface cracks to the spine. Rear hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Front endpaper is lifting a little to the head and tail. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with only the occasional spot.
