Offered with hand colour. DATE PRINTED: 1793, dated on the print. SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 17 x 12.5 cm , 6.5 x 5 inches (medium) plus margins with a blank back. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by G. Barrett and drawn by the Scottish miniaturist Alexander Reid Esq (1747-1823). PROVENANCE: This print was published in Walker's "The Copper-Plate Magazine, or Monthly Cabinet of Picturesque Prints" (London : 1792-1802). The plates were later re-issued by Walker in "The Itinerant: A select collection of interesting and picturesque views, in Great Britain and Ireland" in 1818, this is an example from the original Copper Plate publication. TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good; suitable for framing. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Luss (Lus, 'herb' in Gaelic) is a village in Argyll & Bute, Scotland, on the west bank of Loch Lomond. Historically in the County of Dunbarton, its original name is Clachan dhu, or 'dark village'. Luss is now a conservation village, suited to tourists, it hosts a bagpipe works & kilt maker. Its graveyard monuments may date from the 7th Century with many medieval surviving.
