Contemporary fine full leather bindings, cross-hatched leather boards with gilt borders, gilt spine decorations, spine title labels (some missing) spine titles, royal octavos (9.5 inches tall), marbled paper edges and endpapers, Volume I: frontis engraved portrait, xv, 380 pages; Volume II: 500 pages; Volume III: 475 pages; Volume V: 476 pages, The first scholarly translation of the work into English directly from the original Greek. The original edition was published in 1770. CONDITION: Very Good. (Covers have some soil and discoloration on boards, moderate wear at corners, several spine labels are missing or damaged. The endpapers and title pages have foxing spots. The Contents are complete, intact and clean except for occasional scattered light foxing spots and several preliminary pages and the first text leaf in V2 which have a small light stain at the upper fore corner. The bindings are tight.)
