Description: 1808 EIC East India Company SHIPWRECK X (10) Cash Coin from the East Indian Ship ADMIRAL GARDNER. See PHOTO'S. 1808 EIC X (10) Cash Coin. This recovered X Cash Coin is from the Shipwreck of the EIC Ship the ADMIRAL GARDNER. The ship was bound for India loaded with trade goods and newly minted EIC Coin. The Admiral Gardner did not get very far on her voyage to India being wrecked on the Goodwin Sands off the Kent Coast on 24th January 1809. This coin is one of these copper EIC coins minted the previous year in 1808. As can be seen from the photo's the coin still in vgc/near mint detail on both sides. Along with the coin I will include three pages of information, one on the ship and cargo and wreck, the Captains report on the loss of the ship and one on the wreck in the 1970-90's. This coin was one of the early ones recovered and sold c.1994 and was sold in cases in a plastic cube 2” x 2” with a dark blue base. The cube now shows age marks and the top side of the cube has become discoloured, see Photo’s. An interesting Georgian ship wreck and East India Company coin in excellent condition in its cube.
