Description: PCGS authenticated and graded F Details. Rather glossy dark steel and olive brown. Lighter steel brown toning covers the devices, and the two-tone appearance accents the major details and enhances the eye appeal. There is extremely fine granularity under the toning plus a few patches of light corrosion with verdigris including one under star 6 and more at NT in CENT. This was the only example of the variety in the famous Naftzger collection. This variety was unknown to Hines and Newcomb, and Ted never found a better one that tickled his fancy enough to upgrade. The John D. Wright/Del Bland notes for the N-11 variety indicate this was the discovery coin and that it also may be the A. C. Gies coin that was published by McGirk in 1914. The rarity has fallen since its discovery as more examples have come to light (thanks in large part to the illustrated book on the series published by John D. Wright in 1992), but the variety is still quite rare, especially in grades above Fine. Called net G6 in the Noyes census, his photo #21035. Ex; Henry Chapman 8/1934 - Willard C.
