Description: PCGS authenticated and graded AU 58. Frosty light steel brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints and reddish tan faded down from mint color in protected areas, particularly on the obverse. Sharply struck with nice eye appeal and just a trace of friction on the highpoints. The only marks are some faint hairlines in the obverse fields, the strongest of these being three near stars 12 & 13. EDS but not the earliest. The portrait is covered with fine die rust (as always) and there are die cracks through the date and all the stars. A radial crack from the outer point of star 4 extends between two dentils to the rim and there is a fine radial crack to the dentils from the end of the crack reaching towards the date from star 13. The die crack that connects the tops of 183 is faint. This is the earliest die state you can reasonably expect to find. Ex; Dr. Robert J.
