Description: This is an original antique c.1850s trade card of the Sheffield, England steel converter and tool making firm Joshua Moss & Gamble Brothers. This card gives the firm’s agency address in the United States and is printed on both sides on uncoated lightweight cardstock and measures about 4-1/2” x 3-1/8”. Text on the card reads: JOSHUA MOSS & GAMBLE BROTHERS Converters & Refiners Of Steel. Manufacturers 0f Files, Saws & Tools & General Merchants, Franklin Works, Sheffield – New York, 50 Beekman Street The bottom of the card is printed “New York Office 46, Cliff Street” and this has been crossed out and another address written in sepia ink just above as “235 Pearl” along with “G.E. Rawlins agent”. The back of the card is printed with the medal awarded the first at the 1855 Paris Universal Exhibition. This antique original card is fully complete and intact with moderate handling wear and some toning from age and light staining. There is a bit of glue staining along the top edge on the back of the card from where this was mounted into an album at one time. Also a brief notation on the verso.
