Starting with 'The Token' in 1828, these publications were collections covering biography, history, science and stories. He was mentioned in writings by James Joyce, Emily Dickinson and James McNeill Whistler. Three volumes, covering the years 1858, 1860 and 1862.Volumes II and III are complete with at least thirty pages of publisher's advertisements, including a folding advert.Volume II contains the ownership inscription of Josephine Pigot dated 1859, Volume III the inscription of Harold Gaskell dated 1899. Each volume is complete with eight plates in colour, as well as vignette engravings throughout. CONDITION In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart; cloth is occasionally a touch discoloured, with slight bumping to the heads and tails of the spine and extremities. Fading to spines, and lifting to backstrip of 1858 with closed tear to head. Internally, generally firmly bound; front hinge is strained but remain secure to volume II, a little strained to the rear hinge of volume I and the front hinge is strained after the title page to the third volume. Binding is a little tender throughout the second volume in particular. Pages are a little spotted.
