1860's-1870's TINTYPE CDV CARPENTER & TOOLS: WOOD PLANE, SQUARE, MEASURE, ETC.

Description: Original circa 1860's-1870's (probably 1861-1865) tintype of a carpenter with tools. On the table there are various tools including a wood plain, a square, a wood tool with a ball of string, a circular tool with a metal projection, etc. The handsome well dressed young carpenter wears a straw hat & sits in an elegant pose in his chair. The tintype is contained in it's original attractively embossed matt. The matt measures 4 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The tintype measures 3 3/8 inches by 2 inches. The edges of the image have some surface bubbling. This bubbling does not touch any of the tools or the carpenter. The majority of this flaw is at the left border. But, there is a little of the flaw at the other three sides. However, there is no loss of any surface emulsion at any of these points. When viewed straight on, even in bright light, the bubbling does not show. But, when viewed in bright light at an angle the bubbling shows up. The back has some small rust spots. This interesting photo came from an old Pennsylvania collection of tintypes which was formed over several decades.
