1861 Georgia Currency - Augusta - Civil War - Fredericksburg Relics - 4199

Description: An original hand signed “One Dollar” 1861 “The Augusta Savings Bank” note issued from Georgia. It was issued with a plain back. The note was “payable in Confederate Notes” and was issued with out serial numbers. Original lead ammunition found on the Fredericksburg Battlefield near Fredericksburg, Virginia. The two ring Confederate .58 Gardner at right was made at the Richmond Arsenal in Virginia and has been fired. The bullet at center is a .58 Federal issue made in the Northern arsenals. It hasn’t been fired; whether from the paper cartridge breaking or that it was possibly wet and discarded. The .58 caliber at left has been fired and could have been used by either side. With the exception of the two ring Gardner made in Richmond, Confederate arsenals produced three ring ammunition for their .58 rifles which unless it has been “dropped” it’s hard to tell the difference. They all used a paper cartridge which has not survived in the ground. The white color or patina is due to oxidation in the ground. The Battle of Fredericksburg was fought December 11–15, 1862, in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia. The battle between the Federal “Army of the Potomac” commanded by Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside and the Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia” under General Robert E. Lee, included the Federal Army's futile frontal attacks on December 13 against entrenched Confederate defenders on Marye’s Heights behind the city. It is remembered as one of the most one-sided battles of the war, with Federal casualties more than twice as heavy as those suffered by the Confederates. They are mounted in an 8” x 12” Riker style case with glass front. The artifacts are just pressed in, we don’t glue them in. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. The documents pictured will also come with the set. Please see our "About” on front page for more information on the framing and artifacts.
