Description: Genuine Copper Etching by Edouard Manet of a noted French Poet from 1862 Offered for sale is a genuine etching done in copper by French modernist painter Edouard Manet (1832-1883) completed in 1862. The etching is of French poet, essayist and art critic, Charles Pierre Baudelaire (1821-1867)of whom Manet also painted a portrait. Baudelaire was critically acclaimed and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize, a National Book Award for Les Fleurs Du Mal (The Flowers of Evil), a Literary Award from the Academy of Arts and Letters, a MacArthur Fellowship, the title of Chevalier from France's L'Order National du Merite and he was also Poet Laureate of New York. Theetching is 162 years old and is in very good condition (please see attached photos and feel free to ask questions). It shows Baudelaire from his right side sporting a top hat and bow tie. Manet added his monogram to the upper left. On the bottom left it states, "Peint et Grave par Manet 1862" (Painted and Engraved by Manet in 1862). The bottom right states, "Imp. A Salmon." The etching is beautifully and professionally double-matted and wood framed using acid-free and conservator materials to preserve the integrity of the etching for years of enjoyment. I acquired this piece from an art house in the late 1970s and had it conserved, matted and framed as described. It has hung in my den/library these many years. The frame is 10.625" tall and 9.50" wide, the etching shown is 5.0" tall and 4.5: wide. Price: $599 plus shipping
