Description: The tin shows two women in kitchen with one at stove & another at table. An early & highly detailed litho ad tin with very precise & superior litho details. Based on the look of the solder construction we would date this tin as circa 1870's-1890's or so. This ad tin is super rare! We have seen hundreds of thousands of early ad tins & we have owned a few thousand ad tins over the last 60+ years of being interested in them. But, we have never seen another example of this specific early ad tin. The tin shows a finely detailed scene of two women working in a kitchen. One at the stove & another at a table. At the top front edge above the scene is the wording: "Boite A Conserve" which translates to "tin can". Under this in smaller print is the wording "Pour Faire Chez" which translates: "to do that". There is also some more additional small wording which we cannot read which ends with the word "Conserves". under the design are the words "La Menagere" which translate to "Housewife". The back side of the tin has a lot of text in an oval. We do not know what the original contents of this can would have been. We would love to know more about this tin if anyone out there knows anything about it. But, we have not, as of yet, figured it out what it originally held. Normally we don't collect ad tins with this much wear. But, we have gladly had this one in our collection for many years because of its rarity & the superior execution of the design details. This ad tin is 4 5/8 inches across the top by 4 inches across the base by 3 15/16 inches tall. The circular lid is missing. The tin is heavily worn & dark. There is surface rust inside & also on the base. There are no breaks, no repairs & no touch-ups. The weight is 5 ounces. A fascinating rarity with a lot of charm even in its well worn condition.
