Description: 1879 Framed Theater Poster, Ford's Opera House, Baltimore; Same owner as in DC!. Matted and framed in a great 19th century frame. John T. Ford also owned the infamous theater in Washington DC where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865. Ford's Theater in DC was seized by the Federal Government after the President's death and Ford high-tailed it to Baltimore where he was a distinguished and beloved citizen. He opened his Opera House in 1871 and this poster was displayed to advertise the performance of East Lynne, a famous play of this age. Its star, Etta Farrar, was being feted and this package comes with 2 newspaper clippings reviewing the performance. This rare and lovely poster is in good shape for a hundred and forty-two year old item. with only a small amount of wear in the upper right hand corner. The frame is 24.5 x 16.5 inches; the poster is approximately 7 x 18 inches.
