Description: Here's an NB GLASS WORKS PERTH embossed hand blown glass target ball from the 1870s or 1880 era. It is called a "target ball" by collectors because it was used as a target by throwing it into the air. Although this ball is empty, originally it was filled with feathers or sawdust which flew out into the air when hit by a shotgun pellet showing the spectators that it was a successful hit....NB GLASS WORKS PERTH bold embossed around middle band...diamond quilted pattern around the rest of ball...flat bottom so stands upright on its own...Hand blown in 3 part mold ....crude & rough sheared opening.....aqua....2 7/8"tall....(2 5/8"diameter).....It has an open bubble with 3/8"crack across it on the flat bottom, so cannot be seen on display; no other damage......A shiny clean ball with no haze. It was hand blown at the North British Glass Works in Perth, Scotland in the 1870s or early 1880s.
