This collection of tales from Walter Scott includes many of different genres. Some of the tales included are 'Bruce and Bannockburn', 'Henry Wynd', 'Fued of Maxwell and Johnston', 'Execution of Montrose', 'Legend of Littlecote Hall', 'Donald the Hammerer', 'The Maid of Neidpath', 'Masaniello', and many more. Walter Scott was a Scottish novelist, best known for his 'Waverely' series. He begun writing novels anonymously, and also wrote a great amount of poetry during his life, his best know possibly being 'The Lady of the Lake'. With a frontispiece and a further ten plates throughout. Collated, incomplete, as lacking plate facing page 100, 'Assassination of Regent Murray'. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding, with gilt decoration to the front board and to the spine. Minor mark to the front board, with some light shelfwear to the boards. Minor marking to the spine, with a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Front hinge starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'Percy Elly Bates from Auntie Lottie, 12 May 1887'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot. Title page and page v/vi are detached but present. Lacking plate facing page 100, 'Assassination of Regent Murray'.
