Description: Original antique print from a book published in 1888. " St. John's Vision of the New Jerusalem " " And I saw a new heaven and a new earth : for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away ; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." Revelation chapter 21, v. 1-2 The Holy Bible , King James Version ( KJV ) --------- A scene from the Book of Revelation ; the final book of the Holy Bible. After all of it's struggles, the congregation of the Lord attains perfection upon a new earth under new heavens. In the lower part of the image, St. John kneels on a high mountain before an open book, at the feet of Jesus Christ. John sees with amazement the congregation of the faithful, prepared as the Bride of the Lamb and garbed in righteousness, presented to Jesus Christ. In the background is the holy city New Jerusalem itself, the city of God, with golden streets and gates of pearl. There is no temple, for the Lord God himself is the temple thereof. At the left is Jesus Christ , on a cloud of glory, descending upon the earth. Around him is the heavenly host, and angels bearing the four gospels which are now fulfilled. The text on the banners is in the Latin language : 1. Beati qui ad Coenam nuptiarum Agni vocati sunt. " Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb ." 2. Alleluja ! Quoniam regnavit dominus deus noster omnipotens. " Hallelujah ! For the Lord our God, omnipotent, reigns. " ------ Sheet size is about 9.25" x 11.5" Image size, including the text, is about 7.5" x 7.75" The artist, Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872), was a German painter, chiefly of Biblical subjects. As a young man he associated with the painters of the Nazarene movement who revived the florid Renaissance style in religious art.
