1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Cap Anson - PSA 1 - Poor

Description: Rarely offered 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Cigarettes card of Adrian "Cap" Anson. Graded PSA 1 - Poor. First off - yes, this card has substantial paper loss on the back of the card from where it was probably glued into a scrapbook maybe as long as 135 years ago!! But what you get here is an absolutely SUPERB image quality card with the eye appeal of a much higher graded card without having to spend many thousands (or tens of thousands) more. We'd like to think this is why the 1/2 point grade exists and feel like a PSA 1.5 would be much more appropriate for this one. Corners are actually quite nice with only the bottom left being a bit worse than the others. Right edge has some wear and there's a small water stain (probably) on the very top above his head. Cap Anson is an absolute legend in baseball for both good and bad. He was a huge part in modernizing the game as we know it today developing countless strategies. He pretty much saved the National League from disintegrating. He was the first player to accumulate 3000 base hits. He was also a first class a-hole and racist who was a driving force behind black players not being allowed to play MLB until the late 1940's. Complicated legacy is an understatement for Anson.Total graded PSA graded population of only 250 cards (+ another 57 for SGC).
