Description: This fantastic card was issued by the W.Duke Sons and Co. of New York & Durham North Carolina as an insert premium in their brands of Honest Long Cut Tobacco and Cigarettes during 1890. These cards are from a series of 25 larger size cards entitled , “STAR OF THE STAGE (Third Series)”. The series is designated as series N131 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue. The front of the card features a image of an unnamed Victorian Theatre Actress, while the back featured advertising for Honest Long Cut Tobacco. The Lithography for the card was done by the Joseph P. Knapp & Co. Lithographers New York. The Cards measures 4 3/16 inches by 2 ½ inches approximately. The card does have very few spots of border chipping. This being a black bordered set it is nearly impossible to find a card from this set without any border chipping, most are found with badly “chipped” borders. However it is free from creasing, and I think displays nicely. I have scanned the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself .Don't miss out on this over 120 year old piece (a true antique.
