Description: April 18, 1906 was the day of a massive earthquake in the San Francisco California area . This large silver plate trophy was Crafted by the Meriden Company and Rogers Brothers, the design is victorian with Acanthus pattern details and is made of triple silver plate over copper. It is 13” tall and 10” wide at the handles. The “C A Harrison Trophy was made to go to the winner of the Free for all horse trot San Francisco Driving Club “. See pictures for full inscription. Found in early 2000 by workers digging a foundation near the Polo Field’s built in 1904 in Golden Gate Park , in 1906 there was a horse track in the area called The Old Speed Road according to the research I have been able to do .This should probably be in a museum, but for now it’s here on eBay . The silver companies that made this piece were absorbed into International Silver Company in the 1920s making research on this one a challenge since it seems no records have survived. This could be a great challenge for someone who likes California history and the effects of the 1906 earthquake here in California. Thanks for looking !
