Description: HI Up for sale is this interesting group of salesman sample postcards. All are in good to very good condition with some minor exceptions. These are lithographs. Marked series 636. Leather cards NOT INCLUDED with this item - for reference only. Screen shot if wanted. There are several important things coming together here:1st - John Schott2nd - BLJ - BJ3rd - Leather postcards4th - Parsons, Kansas5th - OklahomaThey are all related The first and second photos are enjoined to make an envelope mailed to John Schott in Oklahoma. The postage was cancelled in 1908. The envelope is marked made in Germany. The third photo shows a small pullout which has (12) twelve 3” x 2 1/8” miniature topographical cards of Parsons, Kansas. I have shown five of the twelve miniature cards plus the bigger one that is part of the envelope (makes 6). Seven are unseen and left for the buyer to see. 6+7= lot of 13. Seven unseen cards are of Forrest Ave, theater, hotel, school, business college and two more churches. The pull out is not attached but loose. See the last two photos, notice the B J Initials. See the joker leather card - it has identical handwriting the initials BLJ.BJ and BLJ is the same person and he is in Germany. Both of the leather cards are addressed to John Schott in Oklahoma. One was cancelled in Parsons,Kansas. Note the leather postcard with the shoe is branded at top Oklahoma. I have searched “Parsons Kansas MKT postcard” and found some postcards (not all) exactly as these pictured in the 12 miniature cards above. At least one is marked made in Germany. Color may have been added. BLJ and Schott were working together. Along with someone in Parsons. BJ was sending samples to Schott. Maybe from photos taken by Schott. Likely Schott was printing regular postcards (maybe in Parsons) from these samples or making an order. He may have said no to some cards and yes to others or what changes to make. Like changing the J. M. C. A. building to the Y. M. C. A. building or adding green grass to tidy up the foreground of the MKT station card. Notice the miniature MKT card initially had MKI. Altogether we get a look at how the postcard industry functioned. There was business going on and here are 12 antique salesman samples of postcards from Germany circa 1908. From an estate sale of 2 generations of ephemera collectors.Notes:Schott was working with someone in Parsons and Germany and most likely other cities in the US.Was Schott a salesman, printer, buyer, photographer or all or some of these? I found several possible relevant connections with Mary Palmer (1905) of Marlborough, New York. I believe the Schott family were photographers.
