Description: For sale, a TOUGHER TO FIND....CIRCA 1913-1914 (per catalog) MINING CAMP SALOON MERCHANT. "good for" style trade token once used as (GOOD FOR) 12 1/2C IN TRADE - MIDWAY (THE MIDWAY SALOON 1913-1914)" which was located in old downtown LOWELL, ARIZONA (almost a suburb of Bisbee) THIS TOKEN WAS USED IN THE MIDWAY SALOON FROM 1913-1914, AND THERE ARE SEVERAL DIE VARIETIES OF THESE OLD "MIDWAY" TOKENS...THIS IS THE BRASS METAL 12 1/2C (BIT) VARIETY. BACK IN THE DAY OF THIS SALOON, THIS TOKEN WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A MINER A 12 1/2C "PREMIUM" BACK BAR WHISKEY DRINK OR A PREMIUM CIGAR....NOT A HOUSE BLEND OR LOW END CIGAR THE NAME OF THIS BUSINESS IN 1913-1914 WAS CALLED "THE MIDWAY SALOON"....THAT WORD "MIDWAY" LIKELY BECAUSE THE TOWN OF LOWELL WAS MIDWAY BETWEEN MINING TOWNS OF BISBEE & WARREN ARIZONA.Most of the Bisbee region tokens I get offered are just flat out dug and ugly.......typical of metal detecting finds in these old west mining camps....this is very nice !THIS MERCHANT IN THE REAL WORLD IS A TOUGHER ONE TO FIND, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION THESE OLD LOWELL TOKENS ARE SO SO UNDER-RATED AND WERE NEVER REALLY RESEARCHED FROM A RARITY STANDPOINT.....THIS GOES BACK TO THE OLD HAL BIRT CATALOG....IT SEEMS LIKE CERTAIN ARIZONA TOWNS (BISBEE, LOWELL, GLOBE, MIAMI, ETC) WERE JUST IN MASS ASSIGNED LOW RARITIES BECAUSE OF WHERE THEY WERE FROM, OR BECAUSE A LOT OF MERCHANTS ISSUED TOKENS IN THESE TOWNS. THERE ARE TOKENS FROM BISBEE OR LOWELL WITH AN R4 OR R5 RARITY THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN 35 YEARS OF HUNTING FOR THEM...AND I LIVED THERE, SO I DO NOT USE THE CATALOG ON ASCERTAINING BISBEE LOWELL TOKEN RARITIES, BUT KEEP MY OWN DATABASE OF HOW MANY I HAVE SEEN OVER THE YEARS.......THIS ONE IS TOUGHER TO FIND....IT IS WAY RARER IN MY HUMBLE OPINION RELATIVE TO R1-R10 SCALEThe historic mining camp of Lowell is located in beautiful Cochise County, next to Bisbee....and not far from Tombstone, Tin-town, Warren and Douglas Az. Trade token is brass metal, round, about 21mm in diameter, with hole as made, and it displays well (please see pictures in gallery) Gallery pictures should give you all the information you need.
