1921 Spink Sport Stories First Edition Three Volumes Signed by A.H. Spink

Description: This is for an original first printing of “Spink Sport Stories – 1000 Big and Little Ones by Al Spink Dean of Sporting Writers” in 1921. This includes all three volumes of the series with the first volume signed by Alfred Spink himself, as A.H. Spink in fountain pen. Al Spink was indeed the dean of any writer of his time as he founded “The Sporting News” a newspaper for all sports but with a heavy emphasis on baseball. Alfreds son Taylor Spink would follow in his fathers shoes, taking over the paper in 1914 while Al would move to Chicago to write for the Saturday Evening Post. Al would write the book “The National Game” in 1910, one of the first histories of the game of baseball along with gathering stories for his 3 volume Spink Sports Stories which would go to print in 1921. Every sport is covered in these three volumes, with a heavy dose of baseball. Wrestling, boxing, tennis, football, track and field, EVERY sport is included by the author with nothing left out. The condition of the books is as follows: Volume I is the best of the bunch in great condition, nice and tight and with the inside page signed by the author and dated 1925. Volume II, not as nice as the preceding book, but nice none the less while Volume III has a bit of staining and may have been near moisture at one time even though no pages are or ever were stuck together. All of the gold lettering on the cover of each book is strong and vibrant while Volume II has the best gold on the spine. An amazingly tough set of books to find with some incredible sports reading. In case you were not aware, Alfred Henry Spink is who baseballs Hall of Fame sportswriters wing is named after, an honor that was bestowed upon the first Shakespeare of sports and baseball. I also showed a page of Al Spinks writing about the Negro teams forming a” Little Major League” in 1921 to whet your appetite.
