Description: This is for an original 1922 Indianapolis 500 program which was the tenth ever 500 mile race run at the Worlds Most Famous speedway. This would be the first time an Indianapolis 500 driver who sat on the pole would win the race. Jimmy Murphy would sit on the pole as the only driver to average over 100 MPH and would lead an amazing 153 of 200 laps. Like 1920 Indy winner Gaston Chevrolet, Murphy would win the 1924 points Championship but lose his life challenging for the lead in a dirt race at Syracuse Speedway in New York. At lap 138 of a 150 mile race, Murphy’s car either broke or hit oil which would crash his car through the inside guardrail, impaling the driver with a piece of wood from the fence. This program has a few issues such as a piece missing from the back cover and a pencil mark on the inside of the back cover which left a bit of smearing on the last page. The oversized cover is tough to keep nice, and this one isnt too bad, but please look at the pictures and judge for yourself. While far from mint, this is a nice complete 1922 program from the 10th race ever run at the famed Indianapolis Speedway and is one of the tougher programs to find as you count down to the first 1911 issue. Extremely rare in any condition. I have a 1921 and 1922 program avilable so be sure to check out both. Check out the scan and email with any questions.
