After leaving the prison in 1935 Pitts gained great notoriety playing semiprofessional football and baseball. The White Eagles (Bridgehampton NY / Long Island) were led by Carl Yastrzemski Sr. The Prison Nine hosted Babe Ruth and the Yankees in 1929.
