She added a new distinction to her list when she was cast opposite Fred Astaire in a dancing role in Paramount's "Second Chorus." Previously, her roles had ranged from the farcical role in "The Ghost Breakers" to the fiery character role in Cecil B. DeMille's "North West Mounted Police." Miss Goddard had never danced until she was cast opposite Astaire. She hired an instructor personally and within three weeks, by dint of hours of hard work, was able to match steps with the dance king in "Second Chorus". Paulette Goddard was an American actress and socialite. Her career spanned six decades, from the 1920s to the early 1970s. She was a prominent leading actress during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
