Description: 1940 Rex Mays Indianapolis 500 Second Place Finisher in His Bowes Seal Fast Special Car Original Charles Bell PhotographMeasuring 8" x 10". Bell Was a Photographer for Kirkpatrick Studios in Indianapolis. Mays was a 4x pole sitter for the Indianapolis 500 and finished in 2nd place in 1940 and 1941. Tragically Mays was killed during a race in 1949 at Del Mar Speedway in Del Mar, California. Photo is crystal clear with some creasing present in the white border areas and in the corners. There is an inscription at the top of the photo reading " Best Regards to J. Frank Liston, Rex Mays". I do not believe this was in May's handwriting and was done by Liston. Liston was a starter and timer for auto races in the 1920's-1950's. This photo is from his collection that was sold.
