Description: VINTAGE MAP DOUBLE SIDED This unusual pictorial map depicts the rides of Paul Revere and William Dawes from Boston to Lexington. These two "mounted messengers" warned John Hancock and Samuel Adams that the British were coming. Also depicted is Samuel Prescott's "midnight ride" to warn the townspeople of Concord of the impending British army move to capture its guns and gunpowder. The map is filled with related notes and illustrations, as well as a narrative at bottom. The verso contains a map of Boston from 1630 from Wigwam to State House from Puritan to Racketeer from Calash to Automobile from Saints and Sinners to Sinners and Saints... (19.6 × 15.9"). It features several interesting notations in the Boston Common area including "Ducking Stool for Scolds & Railers", "Duels with Swords", "Woman Tied to Post for Beating Husband", and "Drunkard's Cloak." The 1940 circa date is based upon population data listed on the map. Drawn by Ivan Chisholm and published by Robert M. Winn. Mint condition .
