Description: For sale we have a good example of WW2 British military issue Moeris ATP watch. The dial, hands and movement are in very good original condition, with wear to the chrome case. It has a 33mm chrome plated case, with fixed bar lugs and a stainless-steel screw back. It fits the wrist well with tapered lugs. It has an excellent original dial and hand set, with aged, pumpkin tone radium luminous paint. The signing is clear and original, with bold Arabic numerals for the hours. It has a clear and simple sub-second dial allowing for accurate time keeping. The case back is signed with the ATP engraving and the serial number 60012.The cal 10.5 Moeris manual wind movement has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within +/-15 seconds a day. The watch is presented on a vintage genuine leather strap for fixed lugs. Moeris ATP watches are the most encountered of the lot, but that isn’t to say that they aren’t also popular choices. They are the largest of all the ATP watches at 33mm and they have an impressively bold dial, with thicker radium markers than others. This example has the correct case back, with a serial number in the 6xxxx range. ATP watches:ATP stands for ‘Army Trade Pattern,’ which set the rules of design to create these watches for British armed force. They were introduced in 1939 and saw significant use in the field, whereas the more desirable WWW watches only played a part towards the tail end of the war. The ATP watches proved so popular that they remained in service until 1957, often with new engravings to the rear for their new purposes. In total, 17 Swiss manufacturers provided ATP watches for the British, all with subtle differences, but broadly of the following specification. They needed to be roughly 30-34mm in size, with a white or silver dial and black numerals for legibility, and a sub-second register for precision. The cases had fixed bar lugs to ensure no spring bar failures. They featured reliable movements with 15 jewel movements or higher and were manual wound. The dial is a silver tone with a satin finish. All signing is clear and the hour markers have original lume plots. The radium has aged to a pumpkin tone. Hands: The hands are original, with thermally blued finish and radium paint cover. They are in good condition with little corrosion to the thermally blued finish. The sub-second hand is also original. Glass: The acrylic crystal is a replacement which is in very good condition. Crown: The crown is original and has wear to the chrome plate. Case: The case is chrome plated and is in average condition for the age. It has a polished finish to the bezel, with a lightly brushed finish to the sides. The chrome plate has suffered significant loss. Caseback:The screw back is in good condition with a circular brushed finish. It has some light surface scratching associated with ageing. The ATP engraving is clear and original with serial number. Strap: The watch is on a vintage genuine leather strap for fixed lugs, which is in good condition. Movement:The movement is a Moeris 10.5. It is a manual wind movement with sub-second, with a jewel count of 15 and has a frequency of 18,000 BPH. The movement has been serviced and is in good condition. It’s keeping time to within +/- 15 seconds a day with an amplitude of 340 degrees and a beat error of 0.9m/s.
