The yawl tied astern is used to row a Pilot to and from a merchant vessel, day or night, winter or summer. Two similar pilot boats are alternately on station. They take turns coming back to the mooring at India Wharf to replenish supplies, make any necessary repairs and to give the Pilots and Coast Guard crew a respite. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches.
