General Edwin Graf Rothkirch und Trach, Commanding General of the German 53rd Corps, was captured with the whole of his staff when Major General Hugh J. Gaffey's 4th Armored Division staged a spectacular 58-hour drive to reach the Rhine north of Coblenz on March 7. It was Rothkirch who encircled Bastogne during the German break-through in December, and Gen. Gaffey's plunged into the bulge to break the siege Edwin Graf Rothkirch und Trach born in Militsch, was a German general during World War II who commanded Army Group Centre Rear Area and later an army corps. As a show jumper, he took part in the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Photo is Dated: March 13, 1945. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC PHOTO, NOT A COPY OR SCANS.
