Description: This is a handsome 1950's Navajo rug. A Ganado style rug from the area of Ganado located on the Navajo Reservation. The rug was woven with handspun wool in natural wool colors. The red color was achieved with aniline dye. The Ganado style motif generally consists of one or more-stepped diamonds or stepped and embellished triangles. The color red is usually woven into the background with gray, ivory, black and red designs that are surrounded by a geometric border. This rug bears the classic red variegated background interspersed with patterns of stepped diamond shapes in alternating red, white and black colors. The rug is finished with a frame of white, red, and black. The condition is appropriate due to the age and some use. Fraying at the corners. Some holes and thread damage.
