Description: Authentic 1950s full-circle novelty-print skirt featuring a whimsical giraffe scene. This is the yellow on black colourway which is the same as the skirt worn by Lorraine in Back to the Future 2. She fastens with a metal zip with two buttons. This skirt was originally a sew your own kit where the panels were cut out and sewn by the owner. The kit did not come with a waistband or fastenings so each skirt is slightly different. Sold in JC Penney, these skirts were tremendously popular in the 1950s as home sewing machines became more widespread and women often made their own clothes. Made from cotton, this skirt has 16 glorious panels which make her a complete circle. The black background is not as deep black as she once was, however the colour is even. The waistband has been reinforced (see photos) and in bright light looks to be more dark blue than the skirt which is black. She has a light fade line to her hem, it appears this skirt was previously made shorter and then later the hem was released to restore her to her original length. This is not particularly noticeable when worn and very common in these skirts. She fastens with two hooks and eyes, a snap and a metal zipper all of which appear original. Waist 24 inches Length 28 inchesHem allowance 1 inch This skirt has been laundered and air dried so is ready to wear. Note: The skirt is shown over a full crinoline, not included.
