The 66-car field was led by Fonty Flock, who qualified at 88.55 mph. Flock would win this race by one lap wearing his Bermuda Shorts. Fin9shing second was Johnny Patterson, followed by Herb Thomas, Bub King, and Banjo Mathews. This race was the first Grand National start for future Champion Joe Weatherly.
