"Popcorn" Card #67 JOHN RALPH WARNER ~ 1957 Los Angeles Angels from scarce collector-issued set About the pictured player: Born at Evansville, Indiana, in 1903 / Coach-Infielder / Major League experience: Detroit Tigers (1925-28), Brooklyn Dodgers (1929-31) and Philadelphia Phillies (1933) / 16 year minor league career with 1,848 hits on .286 lifetime batting average / Played in the Pacific Coast League for: Vernon (1923-25), Oakland (1938-39) and San Francisco (1939-40); also managed Los Angeles (1955) and is pictured as an L.A. Angels coach Little is known about this card and the set it comes from except that the card pictures a player in the 1950's and was probably produced in the 1970's by PCL and photography enthusiast Ed Broder. The card measures approximately 2" by 3" and features a borderless (often miscut) black and white photograph on the front with player name, team, card number and set identification (P.C.L. "Popcorn" Cards) on the reverse. There are no statistics and no manufacturer's copyright. The card stock is thin but reasonably sturdy. An interesting item for longtime followers of the old Pacific Coast League and quite tough to find for a collector's issue.
