Description: Italian Line: From the Frank Braynard Collection, the original July 1957 report issued by the U.S. Congress after hearings on the ANDREA DORIA disaster. The forty-eight-page report includes testimony from marine experts about suggested changes to be made in the wake of the disaster. Witnesses before the committee included U.S. Maritime Commission and Coast Guard experts, but no survivors from the accident. The Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries made seven recommendations including greater observance of recognized east-west sailings routes, revaluating ship ballasting standards, better radar training, installation of bridge-to-bridge radio telephones, and more study of radio use during distress cases.
