Description: 1959 Fender Duo Sonic Electric Guitar (USED)Our Notes: This guitar comes to us from a customer whose husband passed away recently and we are selling some of his instruments on her and her family’s behalf. This is a 1959 Fender Duo-Sonic featuring some unoriginal hardware. There is a pencil marked date code on the end of the neck which reads “1-59” indicating this guitar was made in 1959. First, the body appears to have been repainted at some point. Guitars of this model and year should show some yellowing from age. No such yellowing is present on this finish. Further, there are no major scratches, dents, nicks, or dings which for a 60+ year old guitar would be extremely unlikely. The finish is “arctic white” and has a certain bumpy and uneven texture which leads us to believe that the original 1959 body was refinished in a non-factory setting. There are a few pieces of hardware on the guitar which we can confidently say are unoriginal. First, the original tuners were replaced, subsequently removed, holes filled, and replacement tuners installed. The current tuners are Kluson-style but feature metal buttons unlike the original plastic. The original bridge pick-up has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan model, color red. The original neck mounting plate has been replaced with a generic one with plastic bushing; ergo no serial number is present. In terms of functionality, the guitar is in Excellent condition - the pick-ups work, the electronics are clean, the action feels good, the tuners are smooth, it plays very well. Two notes about the condition: first, the finish on the headstock has been removed, carefully leaving the logo intact. And second, there is a small crack at the end of the neck, just above the truss rod adjustment nut. Markings on the volume and Tone pots are: 250K AUDIO and 304807. Tone capacitor is marked: .05 MFD and 150 VDC, C-D, U.S.A. We have replaced the strings and performed a full set-up. The original case is included and is in Good condition. The latches and handles function properly. The seam where the top meets the handle side has split and is loosely held together by the case covering material.For guitar enthusiasts looking for a vintage gem, the 1959 Fender Duo Sonic is a great choice.
