Description: 1959 Topps #260 Early Wynn Chicago White Sox mid-level EX-MT B59#260A1 This is a mid-level 1959 Early Wynn card with adequate corners, straight edges and nicely centered. Decent corners Nicely centered Clean back HOF Vintage ‘59 Wynn was an intimidating pitcher. He frankly spoke about it openly, and he threw at batter early in his career. He was up and down. He could win a bunch of games in one season, and turn around and lose a bunch of games in the next. In ‘47 he made the All-Star team. He would not make it again until 1955, though he had deserving seasons, the ‘54 season, in particular, after winning 23 games and finishing 6th in the MVP voting. But he failed to gain a spot on the All Star team. The next season he got some coaching and thereafter he made the All-Star team every year until 1961 at the age of 40. In his long career, he won 300 games, typically a Hall of Fame entry ticket, but Wynn had to wait before he entered the Hall. He had openly complained, and he had a good case, and eventually, he was voted in. The All Star snubs, and his delay in entering the Hall, were attributed to his intimidating posture on the mound, and his propensity to hit batters, intentionally. It did not make him a popular vote getter among his peers, and thus the payback.
