This is an original press photo. The Navy Polaris missile blasts skyward in the second completely successful flight fired from an underwater submarine. This launch followed the first to be fired from the USS George Washington by only 3 hours. The missile was propelled to the surface of the ocean by an initial blast of compressed air. It popped through the waves and the engines ignited almost immediately, carrying it 1,100 miles down the test range to the predetermined impact area.Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches.
