Description: Original hard cover first edition of "A Summer Adventure" written and illustrated by Richard W. Lewis, dated 1962, with a front and back cover and 105 interior pages and measuring 9" x 6 3/4". Published by Harper & Row Publishers. The book is about Ross Pennock, an Afro-American teenage boy who decides to set up a zoo of his own, collecting creatures from a nearby quarry. Thunderer, the snapping turtle, brings into focus his questions about the balance of nature. Book was originally a library book at the Amelia Elementary School. Book is in very good condition, with no missing pages, strong spine and the usual markings you would expect from a former school library book. From a pet free and smoke free home-the book has no odor. I searched numerous sources for this book, including ebay and Amazon, and could not find anyone that had this original 1962 hard bound edition. Unusual to find an all Afro-American themed book in 1962. One interesting tidbit. On Amazon a woman gave the book a 5 stars review and said her Dad used to read the book to her when she was a child and that her Dad was the boy illustrated on the front cover and elsewhere in the book.
