A bull calf born to a 3 year old Texas longhorn cow three weeks ago has joined a herd of five adult longhorns brought to Rubicon (Dodge County) recently from their native Texas. Jim Archer, owner of River Hills ranch, said he does not intend to raise the cattle for beef - only for show. The mother of the calf presently has a 24 inch spread of horns, Archer said, but the spread can reach as much as seven feet in older specimens of the breed. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches.
