Description: WICHITA BAND INSTRUMENT COMPANY, since 1953! *** Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Handmade Wm. S. Haynes solid silver flute number 36,540 ( 1968 ). French keywork to low B, length is 636 mm (A = 440), the tube thickness is .014 inches and the embouchure measures 10.0 X 12.0. As some people know, Theobald Boehm, inventor of our moderns “Boehm system” flute, advised the perfect embouchure size was “10.0 X 12.0, slightly square”. Which means our flute is the perfect candidate for having the ideal tone-color….not brassy, but smooth and quite sophisticated. Total weight is 423 grams. All pads and corks are new. Sold with the original Haynes leather case and a modern case cover/. The original embouchure is of solid 14K yellow gold and is so faintly stamped. As one of the “Golden Age” Haynes flutes, we note that suggested price on a new instrument would approach $16,000 Recommended for the adult amateur or a discriminating musician who appreciates the wonderful voice of a “Golden Age” Haynes. $5885. ****** PLEASE NOTE about this instrument!Over the years, I've accumulated a small collection of fine flutes, mostly silver, some wood, the majority made before 1980.**** EIGHT vintage Haynes, SIX vintage Powell, 7 original Louis-Lot ( Paris ) and 5 original Clair Godfroy. One flute of my collection is not for sale. It's a 1960 / 1961 Haynes that I've known since it was new. Purchased by a good friend, who a week later sold it to my best friend. ( Jerry found a Powell he liked a little better.)Of the flutes now in my safe ( see : RAREFLUTES ) for technical information, the "Carolyn" flute is my favorite and is, alas, not for sale. But #36,540 plays equally as well, does not have the same history, of course. Bottom line is that this is a superb and original Haynes, ranking with the best I've ever played. Solid gold lip, beautiful original example. Not a good year for Burgundies, a BEST year for flutes! Flute questions? Write me! Always glad to hear from flute people! ************************************************************************ *** In January of 2024 our small workshop in Wichita celebrated seventy-one years in business.
