Description: HENRI DE TOULOUSE-LAUTREC. The Circus, Island Park, N.Y.: Original Artworks, 1990. Folio (about 17x12.5 inches or 43x35cm), Unnumbered copy of an edition of 350, 8 pages of introduction plus 39 lithographs on Arches paper, separated by tissue, drawn after Lautrec by Marc Kniebihler, large margins with an image size of about 10.5x7.5 inches. With the original solander stamped in gilt on the cover and the spine. Tracey Schmitz, in the introduction to this folio, tells us Lautrec did a total of 50 circus drawings while he was confined to an asylum suffering from alcoholism and assumed to be insane. He drew all this work from memory, having long experience with animals and the circus. The quality of the drawing helped him obtain his release from the institution. This portfolio is scarce; Worldcat locates only one -- at the Library of Congress. Condition of this portfolio Fine, as new.
