Lewis Temple invented this harpoon tip which is named after him (Temple Toggle). The tip on this harpoon is a smaller version. A skilled blacksmith from New Bedford, MA, Temple a former slave, in 1848 created a new type of harpoon with a moveable head that prevented the whale from slipping loose.
